For decades, Bay Area transportation geeks have been waiting for this moment.Ĭaltrain’s new electric fleet - a project in the works since the early 1990s - will soon be open to the public for the very first time, with tours on July 29 allowing Bay Area residents to witness the first-ever transition from diesel locomotives in the American West, according to the transit agency.
